Wetland wonders at the library for Science Week
The library’s Family Services Coordinator, Monique Percy said, “This amazing display offers a unique opportunity to learn about Australian wetlands, their inhabitants, and their ecosystems.”
“As a member of the Nature Education Centre, we’re thrilled that we can borrow live animals from them to make this sort of display more interesting and engaging,” Ms Percy said.
The library’s display features a variety of animals including frogs, yabbies, finches, tadpoles, and stick insects, as well as bone specimens to enhance the understanding of animals, habitats, and life cycles in natural areas like the Laratinga Wetlands.
The Nature Education Centre is a not-for-profit organisation focused on providing hands-on environmental education. They offer the chance to borrow animals, natural history specimens, and educational kits to member organistions in order to engage young people in the study of nature.
Schools, childcare centres, libraries and other organisations can also arrange for the Education Officer from the centre to visit with a range native animals for students to study and interact with. These presentations are suitable for children of all ages and offer a valuable hands-on learning experience. Popular topics include native Australian animals, minibeasts, wetlands, and habitats.
